Rigid-Flex PCB

Rigid-Flex PCB

Compact Design, Superior Reliability, Unlimited Possibilities

A Rigid-Flex PCB combines rigid circuit boards and flexible circuits into a single integrated structure. By eliminating the need for connectors, cables, and multiple board assemblies, rigid-flex technology enables more compact, lightweight, and reliable electronic products.

Rigid-flex PCBs are widely used in applications where space constraints, mechanical durability, and high reliability are critical. Their unique design allows the flexible sections to bend and fold while maintaining the strength and stability of rigid PCB areas.

At Suntech, we manufacture high-quality rigid-flex PCBs tailored to demanding applications in aerospace, medical, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics industries.

Why Choose Our Rigid-Flex PCB Solutions?

Space-Saving, ideal where multiple boards must fit into a compact enclosure.
Fold, bend, and integrate multiple circuit sections into a single board assembly. Rigid-Flex PCBs support compact and complex 3D structures, making them ideal for applications with limited installation space.
Enhanced Reliability
By reducing connectors and interconnect points, Rigid-Flex PCBs minimize potential failure sources and improve performance in vibration-prone and mission-critical environments.
Reduced Assembly Complexity
Integrated flex-to-rigid connections eliminate the need for multiple boards, cables, and connectors, simplifying assembly and improving manufacturing efficiency.
Lightweight Construction
Flexible polyimide layers significantly reduce overall system weight, making Rigid-Flex PCBs ideal for portable, wearable, aerospace, and automotive applications.
High-Density Interconnection
Support for multilayer stackups, fine-pitch routing, HDI structures, blind/buried vias, and high-speed signal transmission for advanced electronic systems.

  • 1. Can rigid-flex PCBs be used in dynamic flex applications?
Yes, but design must be optimized for dynamic bending. We will evaluate copper thickness, bend radius, and reinforcement design to ensure long-term reliability in moving or folding applications.
  • 2. What materials are used in rigid-flex PCB manufacturing?
We use high-quality materials including FR-4 for rigid sections and polyimide (PI) for flexible layers. Adhesive and adhesive-less laminates are available depending on flexibility, reliability, and thermal requirements.
  • 3. Can rigid-flex PCBs include stiffeners in the flex area?
Yes. We can add stiffeners (such as FR-4, stainless steel, or polyimide stiffeners) to selected flex regions to support component mounting and improve mechanical stability.
  • 4. What copper thickness is recommended for flex layers?
For flex layers, we typically recommend 0.5 oz to 1 oz copper to ensure flexibility and durability. Thicker copper can be used, but it will reduce bend performance and must be carefully evaluated.
  • 5. Can you manufacture rigid-flex PCBs with asymmetric stack-ups?
Yes. We support asymmetric rigid-flex structures, but they require careful balancing during lamination to prevent warping, delamination, or stress concentration issues.
  • 6. How do you prevent delamination in rigid-flex PCBs?
We prevent delamination through controlled lamination pressure, high-quality adhesive systems, optimized stack-up design, and strict thermal/mechanical process control.
